SYNOPSIS
In this stop-motion short, Skolly emerges from the depths of a mysterious hole, driven by an insatiable curiosity to explore his dark and enigmatic surroundings. As he ventures deeper, he encounters three tiny, clever creatures who have used his emergence path to also explore the surface. After an altercation where Skolly attacks one of them, the remaining two creatures retaliate, using a meat tube to ensnare Skolly and drag him back into the abyss from where he came.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
Fleshy Explorations tells a very short tale of curiosity, consequence, and the sinister repercussions of one's actions in a dark and unforgiving world. Stop motion animation is very explorative in nature, I like to experiment and see how different materials behave when I bring them to life one frame at a time. In a sense I place my puppets in my shoes, as I animate them exploring and inspecting different materials I am also doing the same from behind the camera. I like to have my puppets realize their surroundings and especially themselves. I also hope that viewers can see past the grotesque visuals and find humor in the story. I can't count how many times these puppets would make me laugh both while filming and editing. Fun fact, creating and filming Fleshy Explorations is what has inspired the current film I'm working on, which also focuses on themes of exploration and puppets realizing themselves within their environment.
