DIRECTOR STATEMENT
This animated short was my capstone film for my senior year at RIT. Going into senior year, I struggled with having zero ideas that I liked enough to feel confident in. The week before I started the first semester, I ended up doodling an EXTREMELY rough version of a cute but conniving little demon character and doing so finally sparked some inspiration, (really out of nowhere).

Throughout the first semester the story took a lot of turns from where it began. Story wasn’t something I was looking to perfect for this film but I know I wasn’t aiming for serious. Something fun, colorful, playful, and cute is how I would describe this film and just getting some smiles or laughs out of anyone who watches it was all I could ask for. Character, shape, color, and environment design were some of my personal goals, and also my favorite thing to do! I really tried having a clear color story and cohesive feel to the whole thing. Consistency is something I struggle with the most so using the same brushes in the backgrounds and having overlays of the same texture really helped the environment keep the look I desired. Speaking of the backgrounds and environment, the style I aimed for was based off of the UPA style, which for those who are not familiar, involves simplified shapes, bold colors, and emphasis on the 2 dimensionality of the screen. This resulted in something a lot different than what I normally do and adapting to that was a fun challenge.

Having something that is beautiful visually is something that I really strived for and I do think I’ve made something that completed this goal. The actual animation of the film was also something I really focused on, since the last few years’ films have been a lot about learning each program and animation skill. I believe this film has shown so much of my improvement in just my animation alone.

DIRECTOR BIO
I have always enjoyed creating art from as early as I can remember. I consider myself a multi-media artist as well as an animator. As a recent graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, I have created three animated short films and I am continuing to pursue my career in the field of animation.
