SYNOPSIS
A woman is grieving the loss of her unborn child as an obscure presence begins haunting her night.
At the Bedside of a Haunting is a short horror that gives a contemporary spin to a Southern Italian folktale (the Munaciello), marking the first time that such a story is adapted for the screen with an international audience in mind. Symbolism, slow-building tension and surrealism make its core.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
I have long studied folklore and I wanted to tell a story that spoke to my land of birth, but I wanted to give it an artistic value and not simply adapt it. I carved a horror film out of it and developed a very particular structure that speaks almost entirely through visuals, because that’s how the story was first used to scare kids like me!
