SYNOPSIS
In the dim corridors of a theater, young actress Lena undergoes a ritualistic transformation as she
prepares for her role. On the night of the premiere, she enters the makeup room, a space that slowly
turns from ordinary to eerie and otherworldly. There Anastasija waits for her, a charismatic yet sinister
makeup artist whose fascination with Lena grows into a suffocating obsession.
As the makeup ritual unfolds, Anastasija gradually takes control of Lena’s body and identity, blurring the
line between art and possession. Each brushstroke becomes an act of domination until it’s revealed that
Anastasija is no mere artist, but a vampiric muse, feeding on beauty and creative life.
Trapped between mirrors and madness, Lena finds the strength to resist. With a silver hairpin disguised
as a dagger, she pierces Anastasija’s heart breaking free from her artistic captor. When she looks into
the mirror again, Anastasija’s body is gone.
“Porcelain Doll” is a gothic horror about the creative process as a sacrifice where transformation
demands blood, identity, and soul.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
Through the process of makeup as a preparatory ritual for a theatre actress entering the stage, the film
we explored a genre of gothic horror. The makeup in this film functions not merely as a site of aesthetic
preparation, but as a transformative ritual an almost magical process through which identity is
constructed. Through its visual narrative, it questions the authenticity and the resistance to its potential
loss. In the contemporary context, the human pursuit of success often seeks power to such an extent
that it metaphorically “drains the blood” or what is organic within the individual; confronting and
eliminating this impulse becomes a personal and ethical responsibility. For actors, the one instrument
that never betrays them the very foundation of their craft remains their authenticity. The creative
process behind this film was both instructive and deeply inspiring. The majority of the creative team
were wonderful women, a fact that significantly influenced the dynamics of collaboration. As the film
also addresses themes of control and manipulation, it was essential to establish the set as a safe and
respectful working environment. Every contributor across all departments brought a high level of talent
and dedication to the project, and I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to have shared this
creative experience
PRODUCER STATEMENT
This film was developed as part of my exam at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, but for me it
represented much more than an academic requirement. As a producer, I approached the project as an
opportunity to fully engage with the creative and logistical responsibilities of filmmaking, while also
supporting a story that resonated with my own artistic interests. Producing this film challenged me to
balance structure with creativity, problem-solving with intuition, and planning with openness to change.
It was during this process that I became even more certain of my interest in creative producing and
production design, where visual thinking and conceptual development are closely intertwined.
