Set in the rural Midwest during the 1970s, Black Hollow follows Jessica, an innocent young girl sheltered by small-town faith and her worldly friend Helen, whose rebellious streak leads them both into danger.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
I wrote this film to serve as a tribute to the golden era of horror, the gritty, sleazy, fearless period when filmmakers pushed boundaries and atmosphere mattered more than polish. This film was shot in Northumberland, Northern England; making it that little bit harder to achieve this feeling. I’ve always loved how those older films felt raw and dangerous. That era had a texture, an energy, and an unapologetic weirdness that modern horror rarely captures.
My goal was to curate a film that feels like it could have been made from that time. Everything the visuals, the pacing, the grime, the tone, was designed to echo the spirit of those classic exploitation and grindhouse horrors. I wanted to recreate the sensation of popping in a forgotten VHS tape at midnight and being pulled into a world that’s unsettling because it feels real.
It’s meant to be a love letter to the era that shaped my idea of what horror can be: rough, atmospheric and unfiltered.
