DIRECTOR STATEMENT
How did you approach genre within the film?
"I actually didn’t have genre at the front of my mind whilst making the film - the horror element sort
of emerged during the process. Particularly when working with my sound designer, George Stein,
as he was able to push the film in different directions which I hadn’t considered. Still, I don’t see
Eye Jam as strictly a horror film, it doesn’t fit neatly into any category which is even more exciting
to me".
Is there a “right” way to interpret the film?
"I wouldn’t say so. I love the idea that people can take away wildly different things from the
experience of watching films. I don’t want to tell people how to feel about it".
Why is it so gross?
"Hmmm, well… everything I make is a little bit gross, I suppose. It feels like part of being human
and having a body and dealing with that. Disgust and a fraught relationship with our body is
something I am a little obsessed by. I can’t really help but express that through my art".
