SYNOPSIS

In the short animated film LAB RATZ by Fedja Petrović, created at the Ljubljana High School of Design and Photography, we follow the process of creating medical grade drugs from their conception to them hitting pharmacy shelves, but with a slight twist. The film depicts the roles of humans and animals reversed, thus showing the cruelty that still takes place in the laboratories of major medical and cosmetic companies today and asks us whether what we are doing is really moral.

The short showcases the horror that takes place in labs where animal testing is happening at this very moment. The film switches the roles of humans and animals. By doing so it puts the viewer in the place of the test subjects and makes them question the morality of the experiments. The film itself is aimed at bringing awareness to said matter.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
Ever since I enrolled in high school I've always been fascinated with animation. This film in particular holds a dear place in my heart as it was my final assignment at my high school. The project's art style was heavily inspired by Mike Mignola's The Amazing Screw-On Head pilot episode and Hellboy series, which work great for the theme of the film.
