DIRECTOR BIO
Julia Mukai is a 2D Animation and Psychology graduate from Pratt Institute. Originally from Maine, she moved to Brooklyn in 2021 to pursue her BFA. Mukai is passionate about mental health activism and started a chapter of The Yellow Tulip Project while at Pratt in hopes of spreading awareness on campus. In Brooklyn, she's had the opportunity to work with acclaimed women in animation such as Signe Baumane and Maya Edelman. Mukai aims to continue to bring her audiences into a state of comfortable discomfort with her narratives and wants to evoke the uncanny realities of today with animation.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT
Time is something we all struggle to balance. It has the power to influence our opinions of others, shape our days, and cause inexplicable panic. This incremental construction of human existence has existed in my mind for years as I slowly pieced together the visual puzzle. My capstone film was the perfect opportunity to experiment with these ideas from start to finish. I wanted to show the contrast of control and chaos with a time-based medium.
