A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is a spooky little love story commanded by an enchanting and angsty vigilante vampiress. Iranian-American director, Ana Lily Amirpour, expertly crafts a brooding noir world that grips her audience by casting classic monochromatic shooting techniques against modern teenage antics. Leads, Sheila Vand and Arash Marandi, navigate their quirky on screen relationship through a perfectly balanced storyline that gracefully sways from terrifying scenes of vampiric carnage to sweet and honest moments of puppy love. Along with a vintage alt pop soundtrack that's sure to perk audiophile ears, the film also offers myriad frames worthy of print and display in an art gallery. Every aspect of the film, from photography and sound to casting and costuming is so ultra indy that it borders arthouse and, at times, becomes overbearing causing the story to drag. Armipour again flexes her cinematic muscles by recognizing these moments chasing them with a good old fashioned finger severing or blood spurting neck puncture. A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is a refreshing break away from the modern monster movie mold and a unique addition to the outliers of the vampire genre.
